ALTHOUGH school is out, the Marianas High School Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Dolphin Battalion cadets continue to carry out their duties and responsibilities.
From June 14 to 17, 2021, the cadets held their JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenges, or JCLC, Adventure Training event along with the University of Guam SROTC cadets.
The SROTC cadets guided the JROTC cadets throughout the training.
“Every cadet had a chance to be a leader, so they know how it feels to carry their responsibilities and duties. It was a learning opportunity for them to nurture their abilities not only as leaders, but as human beings,” said C/CPT. Evelyn Liu.
Throughout the four-day event, she said, cadets engaged in activities such as map reading, physical training, first aid, and drill and ceremony.
Cadets learned how to use a compass as they marched 1.5 miles to Suicide Cliff while carrying heavy rucksacks. They also learned how to apply torniquets, and participated in a marching and tap-out competition.
Additionally, cadets visited historical sites, including the Last Command Post, the Veterans Memorial, and Banzai Cliff, where they learned about military history.
To conclude the training, the cadets got to cool off and have some fun with a water balloon fight.
“Overall, the cadets enjoyed it. This event would not have happened without them. It was a tiring experience, but it was also fun,” said C/CPT. Evelyn Liu.
