It was a fairly even match as neither team could gain the advantage.

But the SUFC players continued doing what they do best, and that was to move the ball. This opened up several shot opportunities, and at the 16th minute mark SUFC finally penetrated through Shirley’s defense as Keisha Delon Guerrero delivered her team’s first goal, 1-0.

SUFC controlled the remainder of the first half but after returning from the halftime break, Shirley’s players were ready to rumble.

They launched an offensive at the start of the second half and their relentless efforts were finally rewarded when Jeraldine Castillo found the back of the net at the 26th minute mark to even the score 1-1.

Both teams fought hard for the rest of the match but with neither able to deliver the game-winning shot, they had to duke it out in  a penalty shootout.

SUFC’s Megan Elayda, Mariana Castro and Rosie Saralu contributed a goal each while Shirley’s fell short as only Marrielle Gariguez and Marilou Arriola could slip a shot. The final score: 3-2 in SUFC’s favor.

Third placer

In the battle for third place it was TanHoldings FC that triumphed over MP United.

Both teams played as equals, leaving the first half silent, but early in the second half, THFC managed to shed some light as its players broke through MPU’s line of defense leaving Neriah Lumbad open for what turned out to be the winning goal.

Despite MPU’s efforts to tie the game, its players failed to deliver, allowing THFC to finish third overall.
