CUC: Lightning caused emergency power outage

(CUC) —  At 12:09  p.m. Monday,  the Commonwealth  Utilities Corp. experienced   power  outage  on Feeders  l, 2, 3, 4, 7 and Kiyas 2, 3 after  a transformer  fronting Paradise Hotel in Garapan was struck by lightning. This resulted in an emergency power outage for the majority of the island.

CUC Power Transmission and Distribution as well Power Generation personnel were able to make the necessary repairs to re- energize all the feeder circuits to full restoration. 

The feeders were turned back online at the following times:

• Feeder 1 (1st  Partial),  1:41 p.m. – Northern Part of Sadog Tasi to CHCC

•  Feeder 1 (2nd and 3rd Partials), 1:46 p.m. – Navy Hill, Chalan Galaide, Southern Part of Sadog Tasi, Puerto Rico, Garapan and China Town

•  Feeder 2, 12:50 p.m. – Garapan Beach Road, Chalan Laulau and Northern Part of San Jose

• Feeder 3, 1:30 p.m. – Lower Base, Puerto Rico, Imperial Pacific hotel-casino

•     Feeder 4, 12:36 p.m. – Parts of Sadog Tasi, Capital Hill, As Teo, Entire Kagman, Wireless Ridge, I  Denni, Talafofo, Mt. Tapochao and Papago

•    Feeder 7, 12:48 p.m. – Lower Base, Tanapag, Achugao, San Roque and As Matuis

•  Kiva 2, 1:32 p.m. – San Antonio, As Lito, As Perdido, Koblerville, As Gonno, Chalan Piao, C.K. District 3, C.K. Southern Part of District 4 and Agingan

•  Kiya 3, 12:44 p.m. – Chalan Kiya toward the Gualo Rai intersection on Middle Road

Water service in the areas of China Town, Upper MlHA and As Falape was offline until 4:30 p.m. Monday as CUC water operations personnel had to make the necessary repairs to restore water to the affected areas.

Water service in the areas of As Matuis, Achugao, San Roque and Tanapag was offline until April 27, 2021 at 6 a.m., due to low tank level caused by the emergency power outage.
