(Office of the Governor) — With the passage of the American Rescue Plan of 2021 by both houses of the U.S. Congress Wednesday in Washington, D.C., Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Governor Arnold I. Palacios issued the following statement:

“This last year has been extremely difficult for the world and for our Commonwealth due to the unprecedented impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. While we are grateful that the CNMI remains among the safest places in the United States from Covid-19 because of our proactive planning and collaborative efforts, it remains very clear that our economy has not recovered to appropriate levels in order to sustain our government.
“With the passage of the American Rescue Plan, the CNMI will receive much-needed relief for our government and our people, most notably through the stimulus check payments, funding for our governmental operations, and additional funding for unemployment assistance.
“We look forward to seeing President Biden sign the legislation on Saturday (our time), and we will work with Congressman Kilili and our federal partners on the implementation.”
