SHIRLEY’S Football Club still leads Division B of the Dove Women’s League Spring 2021 following its victory against Kanoa Football Club, 5-1, Sunday at the NMI Soccer Training Center.
It was Shirley’s fourth win.
Against Kanoa, Shirley’s showed why it’s on top of the standings as its players applied relentless pressure on the opposing team throughout the entire game.
It started at the 18th minute mark with Shirley’s Marilou Arriola drawing first blood. Four minutes later, Shirley’s broke through Kanoa’s defense once more with Jeraldine Castillo contributing the second goal.
Kanoa returned to the second half with a clear mind as its players fended off Shirley’s offensive while firing back with shots of their own.
Kanoa finally seized an opportunity to strike with Lynzey Green sinking the ball to reduce the deficit, 1-2.
But that was the end of Kanoa’s comeback attempt as Shirley’s took over with three goals. At the 41st minute mark, Arriola scored her second goal of the day while Riane Capalad and Alexandria Vergara chipped in a goal each to secure the win for Shirley’s, 5-1.
Southern United vs TanHoldings
For its part, the Southern United Football Club edged the TanHoldings Football Club, 1-0.
It was an even match with neither team able to gain the lead for a silent first half. At the 30th minute mark, however, Southern United seized control and created a shot opportunity for Keisha Deleon Guerrero who handed her team the advantage, 1-0.
TanHoldings’ players tried their best to even the score, but failed to score despite countless chances to finish, thus allowing Southern United to bag its third win of the season.
