(Commonwealth Bureau of Military Affairs/Office of the Governor) — The Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Marianas and NAVFAC Pacific, in coordination with the CNMI Procurement Technical Assistance Center, will host a virtual industry day on March 23 and 24, 2021.
Event participants will receive updates and overviews regarding Guam military relocation construction projects, Tinian divert airfield, CNMI business portfolio, CNMI PTAC, and contracting 101.
On Day 2, participants will have an opportunity to meet and network with potential prime contractors. Interested participants can register for the event at www.cnmiptac.com
“With the United States engaged in this great power competition with near-peer nations, we must remain ready and able to provide critical infrastructure for our fleet and warfighters,” said NAVFAC Marianas Commanding Officer Capt. Tim Liberatore. “Events like these expand relationships and further build upon a foundation to ensure we can deliver by mission required dates. Planned [Department of Defense] projects in the CNMI, especially the construction of the Tinian divert airfield, will be beneficial for the community bringing more economic stability and opportunity to the region.”
According to Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, the private sector plays a critical role in supporting the DoD’s training and mission requirements which in turn will spur economic growth on Tinian and the Commonwealth as a whole.
“Ensuring that our Tinian community and the CNMI are afforded the opportunity to participate in the development of this project through employment and contracting prospects is part of the larger efforts that I, along with Tinian Mayor Edwin Aldan, Senate President Jude Hofschneider and the Tinian leadership, have been advocating for through our partnership with Maj. Gen. Suzanne Vares-Lum, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, Rear Adm. John Adametz, NAVFAC Pacific commander, and Rear Adm. John Menoni, Joint Region Marianas commander and CPT Timothy Liberatore, NAVFAC Marianas,” the governor added.
He encouraged members of the community to participate in the event.
“I strongly urge our community on Saipan, Tinian and Rota to register for the event to learn more about the military buildup and the divert projects, and to learn how to contract with DoD,” he said.
“The divert project is not limited to construction contracting opportunities but it is anticipated to generate a host of business activities to support the influx of contractors and the overall project development.”
Occupational requirement survey
The Tinian Divert Project is anticipated to generate a host of employment and business opportunities for the residents of Tinian and the Commonwealth as a whole.
The Office of Mayor Edwin Aldan has launched an occupational requirement survey in support of ongoing initiatives for the development of occupational skills necessary to support the occupational requirement of the overall development of the Divert Project.
