PELELIU continues its rise in the team standings of the Belau Amateur Softball after powering past the Red Men, 20-10, Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.
The Red Men opened strong with three runs, but PeLeLiu’s answer was louder, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first inning.
It started with an error made by the Red Men allowing PeLeLiu’s James to slip past home base while team-mates Mark and Alvin earned RBI singles to quickly even the score 3-3.
PeLeLiu then took control as the Red Men were unable to pitch inside the striking zone, allowing the bases to fill.
PeLeLiu’s Walt seized the moment with a power shot, sending the ball over the fence for a grandslam to give his team a 7-3 lead.
After allowing the Red Men one run in the top of the second inning, PeLeLiu notched six more.
Although no homeruns were made this time around, more than half of PeLeLiu’s roster contributed an RBI each to give their team a 13-3 lead before the Red Men could stop the bleeding.
The Red Men were not going down without a fight, however, as they returned in the third inning with a three-run homer courtesy of Mike.
But PeLeLiu was simply unstoppable, scoring four runs in the bottom of the third and three more in the bottom of the fifth.
The Red Men had one more chance to stay in the game in the fifth inning but PeLeLiu’s defense ended the game with a 20-10 win.
Man Amigos vs Angkaur
The Man Amigos also celebrated on Sunday after outscoring Angkaur, 13-9.
The Man Amigos scored three runs in the opening inning and five more in the top of the third to establish control.
Although Angkaur’s players slowly made their way back into the game with nine runs in the second to the fifth innings, the Man Amigos were able to shut down Angkaur in the final two innings while adding five more runs to seal the deal, 13-9.
