A 26-year-old Department of Corrections officer died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Café Mango Six on As Terlaje Hill Saturday afternoon.
The Department of Public Safety did not identify the Corrections officer pending formal notification of next of kin.
DPS spokesman Adrian Pangelinan said police and medics rushed to the scene after receiving a call about a “nonresponsive male” at the café.
At the scene, responding officers met with the café’s staff members who stated that prior to the incident, they saw the Corrections officer speaking with a friend. A few minutes later, staff said they heard a single gunshot as the Corrections officer walked out of the restroom area. Variety learned that a service pistol was fired.
DPS said its investigation regarding this incident is ongoing.
