DAS Krishnan started 2021 by winning a ticket to the finale of the newly opened season of the Saipan Golf Association as he topped the January Ace of the Month Tournament Sunday at the Coral Ocean Golf Resort.
Krishnan had an exceptional performance, completing the front nine with a gross of 42. He only strengthened his odds on the back nine as he improved his stroke with a score of 39 to hold a total gross score of 81. Aided by a handicap of 12, Krishnan finished first with a net score of 69.
One stroke behind was Tony Benavente who finished the first nine holes with a gross of 41 and picked up the pace in the remaining nine with a score of 37 for a total gross score of 78. Unfortunately, he only had a handicap of 8 which gave him a net score of 70 and second place.
In third was Alex Tudela who scored 41 on the front and 40 on the back for a gross total of 81. Supported by a handicap of 10, his net score was 71.
Larry Deleon Guerrero, who has an 18 handicap, had the same net score, but was bested by Tudela in the scorecard tiebreaker. Deleon Guerrero grossed 45 on the front and 44 on the back.
In the closest to the pin challenge, Mariano Fajardo won the prize for hole #3; Benavente took hole #7; John “Nanni” Cruz, hole #12; and Das Krishnan, hole #14.
The longest drive challenge was won by Rick Kautz at hole #1 and Alex Tudela at hole #18.
The next SGA Ace of the Month Tournament is for February and will be played at Kingfisher Golf Links on Sunday, Feb. 28, with tee time at 9 a.m. and a show time of 8:30 a.m.
