Lawmakers may require SHEFA to present annual report

Lawmakers, he added, would like to know if the scholarship program is being implemented properly.

SHEFA admitted that it has no data on how many of its recipients  have completed studies and returned to Saipan to work here as required by the grant agreement.

Benavente, R-Saipan, said he knows that SHEFA funds have helped  students.

In an email, SHEFA chairman Jose C. Mafnas said they will go after  recipients who failed to comply with the agreement.

“It is in our plan to go after those recipients who did not comply with the condition set forth in the promissory note/memorandum of agreement that they signed and agreed upon accepting SHEFA’s scholarships,” he said.

He said they have not forgotten that section of  SHEFA’s policy.

Benavente also told Variety that Saipan lawmakers are still looking into the complaint about the legitimacy of the membership of SHEFA board members Maggie C. Camacho and Josephine T. Sablan.
