Tinian leaders, businessmen hope for better year

Addressing over 800 employees and guests during the 2010 Christmas party of the Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino on Wednesday evening last week, Tinian Mayor Ramon Dela Cruz said 2010 has been a very difficult year not only for the island but for the whole commonwealth.

But Dela Cruz said 2011 is the Year of the Rabbit, an animal which is known to go around in leaps and bounds.

“Together let us work to take big leaps that will bring us to more success and bail us out of our economic depression,” he said.

Senate Vice President Jude U. Hofschnieder, R-Tinian, also expressed hope that the coming year will be better for the islands.

“Let us all join hands to make Tinian a better place to visit, and this can be achieved if everybody joins the campaign,” he said.

Hofschneider, together with Sen. Frank Cruz, R-Tinian, and Commerce Resident Director Matthew Masga showed their appreciation to  Tinian Dynasty “for sticking around despite the harsh times” —  for not closing its doors and packing its bags to operate somewhere where the situation is not bleak. They also thanked the hotel for its economic contributions to the island and the CNMI.

Tinian Dynasty general manager Tom Liu said the hotel has had its share of ups and down in the past years but it continues to serve and draw tourists from all parts of the world.

“Let us all join hands to make things better in the coming year,” Liu said.

He said they are hoping to bring in more charter flights from China and more tourists to help spur the local economy.

Casino general manager Tim Blyth urged everybody to “set aside the different barriers and celebrate the holiday season no matter what your religion, faith, color, credo, belief, and philosophy in life is.”
