GOVERNOR David M. Apatang on Monday told Senate President Karl King-Nabors that he and Attorney General Edward Manibusan are willing to discuss in good faith the Senate’s concerns regarding the reinstatement of Department of Public Safety Commissioner Anthony Macaranas.

Last week, the Senate president followed up on his prior request asking the governor to identify the legal authority for rescinding the decision of then-acting governor, Lt. Gov. Dennis James Mendiola, who terminated Macaranas without cause in February.

King-Nabors told the governor in his follow-up letter that if the Senate does not receive a clear legal basis, it will consider seeking judicial clarification.

In his response on Monday, the governor said he and the attorney general “remain ready and willing to discuss this in good faith and resolve any legal issues through constructive interbranch dialogue.”

“Posturing, threats, or ultimatums only distract from the important public business on which our branches must collaborate, including rebuilding from Typhoon Sinlaku and prudently managing limited budgetary resources,” the governor said.

The governor also told King-Nabors that Manibusan had informed him that he was available for a meeting that had been tentatively scheduled for May 29, 2026, but the Office of the Attorney General was later informed that the meeting had been canceled.
