Rivera shines in 8-ball tourney

Rivera headed up the winners bracket after beating Greg Guerrero and ‘G’ Cabrera. Guerrero in turn, sent Andrew Constantino to the losers’ bracket while Cabrera knocked off Ron Chisato and Taylor Watanabe, who handed Cepeda his first loss.

Constantino eliminated Watanabe but couldn’t get past Cepeda. The EMO sharpshooter scored wins over Chisato, Guerrero, Constantino and Cabrera to jump off the losers’ bracket.

He took the first game from Rivera in the championship before falling behind in the second game.

When Rivera missed a relatively easy cut on the 8-ball down the rail, Cepeda took advantage by playing a safe shot and earning ‘ball in hand.’ He made his last two balls but missed a similar cut down the other rail, leaving the 8-ball hanging.

Rivera didn’t refuse his present, finishing the game and match.

The entry fee is $10 for all Sunday 8-ball tournaments, with the first, second, and third place finishers splitting the pot. Sign-up starts at 7 p.m.

Games are played in a double elimination 8-ball format, following Billiard Congress of America rules.
