The Mochisuki & Culture Festival is a tradition celebrated by the Japanese for centuries to usher in the New Year with wishes for prosperity and good health.

The festival will also give the community a chance to explore Japanese culture through  Origami, Hanetsuki, Kendana, Bemona and Syodou.

Last year, several adults and children participated in the mochi or rice cake pounding ceremony using the heavy kine or wooden mallet, and got a taste of the rice cake dipped in sauce afterward.

Sponsors for the Mochisuki and Culture Festival are Kinpachi Restaurant, Furusato Restaurant, PDM Promoters Inc. and the Japanese Society of the NMI.
