Fitial lauded the leadership abilities and people-oriented skills of Camacho, who is set to turn over Guam’s highest elected post to Eddie B. Calvo in January.
“It is only proper and very much fitting that we honor one of the founding fathers of this summit and a very respectable leader of the island of Guahan and the Micronesian region,” said Fitial.
His resolution also hailed Camacho for his efforts during the three separate times that he chaired the summit on Guam. “Gov. Felix P. Camacho has attended all 14 Micronesian Chief Executive Summits held to date and has been a guiding steward in its evolution and development,” reads the resolution.
Camacho also received warm praises as the most senior member of the summit.
Fitial noted, “Governor Camacho introduced organizational innovations and improvements to the summit process like the creation of the standing committee structure of the summit at the third and fourth summits held on Guam.”
According to the resolution, “Camacho has consistently articulated a vision of the summit process rooted in the solidarity and sovereignty of the chief executives and of the people and island states and territories that they represent and in so doing has pursued with tenacity and vision goals and ideals rooted in his love of and search for economic, environmental and social justice for all.”
“Governor Camacho has been a driving force for the emergence of cooperative multilateral governance in Micronesia, and has been a champion of using this vision to expand the Micronesian voice in local, regional and international fora in order to ensure a better life and sustainable future for all of the people of Micronesia,” Fitial said in his resolution.
Breaking away from the traditional process, the chief executives unanimously adopted the resolution and immediately went into recess to affix their signatures.
