Sonics march to finals

From the moment the Sonics took possession of the ball after the Jump Ball initiated the game, the Sonics were already in fierce control of the game snatching the driver’s seat of the game away from the G-Stars.

The Sonics’ John Paul Villanueva, Melvin Cadiang, and Bryan Ajoste each scored 9 points, 6 points, and 4 points respectively while the G-Stars’ Edward Manalili and Christian De Vero each scored 5 points a piece.

Unfortunately this was not enough to grab the lead from the Sonics. By the end of the quarter, the Sonics accomplished a 12 point upper hand against the G-Stars, 28-16.

The Sonics stepped it up a notch upon entering the second quarter of the game after Cadiang seized another 5 points working side by side with his teammates to achieve a total of 20 points throughout the quarter.

By half time, the Sonics widened the gap to a huge 17 point crevice, 48-31.

Both teams entered the second half of the game with one common goal in mind; hand the upset to the opposing team so that we may move on to the championship round.

With this goal it motivated both teams greatly to play and work harder in the second half of the bout.

The Sonics pushed themselves one more notch in the third quarter. Leo Galarse scored a total of 7 points through the quarter working with his other teammates to widen the damage beyond repair. By the time the siren rang to shut the third quarter shut, the Sonics were leading by 23 points.

The G-Stars entered the final quarter with strong spirits. Dino Palacios was able to breach past the Sonics’ tough barrier to score 6 points for the G-Stars but with one final effort, the Sonics pulled together and sparkled over the G-Stars in one shining moment.

The Sonics managed another 16 points and deposited it to their side of the scoreboard to secure the game after remembering the first upset they were handed by this same team. The Sonics successfully handed the loss to the G-Stars who then went off to challenge the Sparks.

They now enter the championship round tonight that is scheduled to happen at the Gilbert C. Ada gymnasium.

The consolation round’s results will be posted up in the Tuesday’s edition of the Marianas Variety.
