Castro, McKenzie are November king, queen of the lanes

Castro bested September winner Robert Talavera with 847 pin falls and a 211.75 average. He dominated in games one and two, tallying 233 and 245, respectively. Simon Manacop led in game three with 248 pin falls, followed by 235 from Lito Teodoro. Meanwhile, Castro inched ahead with 196 more pins before ending with 173 in game four.

Knocking down 791 pins with a 197.75 average, Talavera came in second place. Manacop finished in the top three with 786 pins. Talavera completed last Monday’s games with scores of 199, 180, 201, and 211, while Manacop had 177, 171, 248, and 190. Ruselle Zapanta jumped into fourth place with 776 pin falls.

McKenzie secured her spot in the ladies’ category with 687 pin falls, trailed by Elena Soll at 661. McKenzie was Sunday’s top scorer and was the only female to tally more than 200 pins in one game. McKenzie averaged at 171.75 pins, marking 168, 150, and 153 in games two to four.

Dashing for third place were previous queens of the lanes Gloria Omechelang and Ron Cal, who tied at 651 pin falls with an average of 162.75. The latter led the way in games one and two with 347 pins before falling even with Omechelang’s 348 in games three and four.

In the men’s category, Castro was awarded $90 while Talavera received $45. Manacop won $35 and Zapanta received $20.

McKenzie bagged the ladies’ $80 prize and Soll collected $40. Both Cal and Omechelang won $15.

Sanctioned by the Saipan Bowling Association, the tournament is exclusive to SBA members only. The next ‘King and Queen’ of the lanes competition will be held on Dec. 12 and 13 at Capital Bowling Center.
