Santos says Rota Medicaid applicants uncertain of status

The applicants, she added,  have yet to be informed of their status, qualification or eligibility.

“This federal program may be the only program that these applicants may qualify for,” she said.

Santos, Ind.-Rota, said she already informed the Department of Public Health about this issue.

In her letter, she told Commonwealth Health Center Administrator Esther Muna that they can’t afford to leave the problem unattended as the health and welfare of the affected people should be paramount.

“They have to do something because people are suffering,” she told Variety.

Santos noted the current economic situation of the islands.

“I understand that the CNMI Medicaid offices based on Saipan are understaffed and in fact employees have over-worked to meet the needs or demands of all three senatorial districts,” she said.

Still, Santos said she is hoping the Department of Public Health will promptly act in addressing her request.

Medicaid is a federal health program for eligible individuals and families with low incomes and resources.
