New dance school in Garapan

Allen’s School of Performing Arts, located behind the DFS Galleria, opened on Sept. 8 and has been accommodating students five years old and above.

“Anybody can be a dancer, even if you haven’t danced all your life,” said Allen Cuyugan, the instructor of Allen’s School of Performing Arts.

Classes offered at Allen’s School of Dance and Performing Arts include low and high impact dance aerobics, low, moderate and high impact zumba, belly dancing, modern dances such as hiphop, techno, R & B, moderate jazz, and ballet jazz, local and international cultural dances, ballroom dancing, Latin, swing, reggae, jive, chacha, samba, rumba, salsa and standard dance including foxtrot, tango, quickstep, waltz, paso doble and the flamenco.

If you want to join aerobics classes, drop by Allen’s School of Dance and Performing Arts from 6 to 8 a.m. every day. Belly dancing is from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturdays for advance classes, and from 5 to 7p.m. on Sundays for beginners.

By next month, Cuyugan said he will be offering voice lessons, musical instruments and acting workshops.

Shimmy skirts for belly dancing, as well as dancing shoes for men and women are also available for sale at the school.

On Dec. 18, Cuyugan said they will be launching the Body Movers, a dance group composed of choreographers including him, Anne Nelmida, May Mangahis, Jerome Bella and Joseph Quistadio. The school will also hold its Christmas party on the same day.

Cuyugan, a mass communications graduate,  worked as a personal assistant for famous personalities on several TV shows and sit-coms in the Philippines. He was also one of the dance instructors of the Wise Women Project dance classes, a federally funded program aimed to increase physical activities for local residents.  Cuyugan also organizes events and special occasions such as debuts, weddings and parties.
