Yesterday, members and officials of the Rotary Club of Saipan visited the center to serve Thanksgiving lunch to more than 70 manamko’.
“We are very grateful. With the austerity and the way the economy is, we are happy that they still think of us,” Office on Aging Director Rose DLG. Mondala said.
More than 10 kinds of healthy dishes, including salad and drinks, were served by the Rotarians.
Long-time congregate Terry Sitae said she was grateful for the generosity of the Rotarians.
“I hope they visit us regularly,” she said.
Rotary Club president Glen Perez said senior citizens are part of the community and deserve to be appreciated.
During the event, Rotarians also performed a song and gave the manamko’ assorted gifts.
Rotary Club community services director Josh Sasamoto said the giveaways included a gift certificate for Sunday brunch for two at Hafa Adai Beach Hotel, lunch for two at the Pacific Islands Club, $10 gift certificates from the Café at the Park, a handheld garment steamer, a one night stay at Hyatt for two, a bottle of wine, a backpack, a lantern, a portable chair, an umbrella, two $25 Joeten gift certificates, a mug, 10 keychains, tumbler cups, cookies, handbags for women, a men’s gift set, a Chamorro CD and the Rotary Christmas CD.
Teresita Sorroza, Senior Citizen Advisory Council chairwoman, said the Rotary Club of Saipan is one of the regular donors of the manamko’.
“We are happy that they always remember us on the special days of the year,” she said.
Other community organizations have been providing lunch to the manamko’ this week.
On Monday, Wushin Company represented by Enoch Lim and Jun Patawaran donated $1,000 to the manamko’.
The money will be used for future projects of the Senior Citizen Advisory Council, Mondala said.
Today, the manamko’ will be treated to a Thanksgiving lunch at the Fiesta Resort & Spa courtesy of the hotel.
On Friday, Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan will provide lunch to the manamko’ at the Saipan World Resort.
