CUC has 3,000 unmetered water customers

This figure is less than the 4,500 unmetered residential customers Georgetown Consulting Group recently reported.

CUC also has to replace over 9,000 defective meters with Smart Meters, Malae said.

“We are still replacing them at present as well as some of the new ones that failed,” he added.

Malae said  the manufacturer sent a senior representative to Saipan to assure CUC that they will stand by their warranty.

In a previous interview, Malae said by December about 1,000 flat rate customers should be metered — their water service will be measured by the gallon instead of an estimate.

Malae said under his leadership CUC will pursue the programs that his predecessor, Antonio Muna, has already implemented.

“We will continue with all the programs established by Mr.  Muna,” he added.

However, he said, they will also emphasize customer service at all levels.
