The Green Step was scheduled to fall on the week of the 2nd Annual Canoe Festival, which made it perfect to clean around the Colonia area before the festival.
The Yap Sports Council organized the Green Step project in collaboration with the Division of Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency. This project is a walkathon where participants plant trees alongside the road as they walk and pick up trash along the way.
The first two trees planted on Wednesday morning were by Gov. Sebastian Anefal and Floor Leader John E. Mooteb.
Green Step is designed to promote human and environmental health in the state.
