Blue Team’s George Malonzo, Richard Borja, Jacob Taisacan, Danny Arcega and Danny Calimag scored 577 pinfalls in the championship round, or 11 more than the heavily favored Red Team of Sally Ramos, Arsen Hembra, Dave Sablan, Ariel Ocampo and Melvin Villarin.
The other Red Team members were Vhetong Elizalde and Jonathan Manacop.
Leading the Blue Team in the finals were Borja with 154 pin falls followed by Malonzo (122), Arcega (116), Taisacan (112), and Calimag (73). Malonzo tallied three strikes, with his teammates making one apiece.
The other members of the Blue Team were Tess Managuio, Lynn Federico, Lita Silanga and Tere Cayading.
After the first round of the competition, the lowest scoring team was eliminated. This dubious distinction belonged to Team Yellow, or the editorial department, which upset the production team in 2001 to win the first MV bowling tournament.
The remaining teams on Saturday then played another round after which the lowest scorer was again eliminated, and this time it was the Black Team, or the administration department, that got the ax.
The White Team of the advertising-art departments was eliminated in the semi-finals which Team Red topped. The scores: Red 708; Blue, 552; and White 493.
The stage was then set for the finals. Team Red, with its veteran bowlers, was the favorite but Team Blue had the more enthusiastic players who never tired of screaming and yelling every time their team mates hit the pins.
