KagHS holds National Honor Society induction ceremony

It was the school’s 8th year of inducting the select few who possess the four qualities that meet the excellent standards of the NHS.

The first quality is “Character”: positive character qualities including honesty, respect and courtesy.

The second is “Leadership”: to be able to lead others through positive influence.

The  third is “Scholarship”: the commitment in maintaining and pursuing excellent standards in higher education.

And the fourth is “Service”: to willingly volunteer one’s self without compensation.

These qualities were recognized in the 29 inductees through the reviewing of applications and intensive interviews by the NHS faculty council members Dominic Pangelinan, Nina Demapan, John Sanchez, Helen Iglecias, and Gina Sambilay.

After the ceremony, inductee Tasha Delacruz told Variety in an interview: “My goal as a new member of the NHS is to help make our school a cleaner, safer place to learn. Because our environment plays a huge part in the way we learn.”

Lizabeth Hofschneider, NHS advisor, said: “Kagman High School is known as the ‘turn-around’ school because we started with no members, to a small group, then to a big group over the years. Each year we have more members. However this school year we have about the same amount of inductees as the previous year but what took me by surprise is the number of seniors we have this year. There are more seniors in this group than junior and sophomores.”

The National Honor Society is one of the oldest educational organizations in the United States that honors students who exemplified high standards from grades 10 to 12.

The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

The main purpose of the NHS is to stimulate a desire to render service to promote leadership to develop character to students in secondary schools.

It also aims to represent the four qualities of each NHS member: character, leadership, scholarship and service.
