DFS marks 50th year with epic, star-studded gala

The DFS journey began in 1960 when American entrepreneurs Charles F. Feeney and Robert W. Miller opened their first DFS outlet at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Today DFS Galleria stores are located in 14 countries around the world and each features an impressive selection of the world’s most sough-after luxury brands.

On Saturday evening,  Nov. 6, the glamourati, luxurati and paparazzi converged, merged and dazzled the night away at the DFS Galleria Sun Plaza store in celebration of the DFS golden  anniversary.

Electric with elegant energy, this evening of multi-sensorial delights included an array of thematic custom cocktails, savories and desserts, avant-garde entertainment, DJ mixes, strutting models, stunning exclusive merchandise showcases, a photo wall, special guests and a few unexpected surprises all combined to highlight this extraordinary moment in DFS history.

Iconic luxury brands including Burberry, Celine, Chloe, Fendi, Marc By Marc Jacobs and many other designed limited-edition merchandise exclusively for the event.

Celine’s exquisite luggage bag crafted in natural python, and Fendi’s shimmering sequined baguette bag captured the spotlight and the elegance of the evening.

Guests were whisked away from Sun Plaza to a mystery location for an unforgettable after-party.

The surprise destination was Hong Kong’s Kai Tak International Airport, the site of the original DFS.

A spectacular party dome club space was constructed on site, complete with light shows, video projections, dance floor, stage, champagne and cognac tasting bars and lounge areas.

Signature gold-tone graphics and images of DFS history added to the electrifying ambiance of the space. Guests were grooved to the soulful sounds of Brahms & Co., a French musical duet from Paris.

Their set was a smooth segue to the surprise main performance by international recording artist and Grammy winner Wyclef Jean who brought the dome down performing 6 songs on the main stage.

Club DJ du jour Emmanuel Santarromana mixed electro, rock and pop and took guests on a sophisticated lounge induced journey of sound and sensory style.

Robert Miller, founder of DFS, stated, “I couldn’t be more proud and confident of our company and our people’s future than I am today.”
