Deadline set for Christmas tree décor contest

Sonia Siwa of PDM Promoters said they have already sent registration forms and invitations to all the elementary schools on island last week.

For this year, Siwa said  Christmas trees will be nine feet tall. The trees were only seven feet tall in the previous years.

A lot of prizes are at stake for the winners.

PDM Inc. has started preparing for the giant Christmas tree that will be erected at the Paseo de Marianas.

Last year,  PDM’s Christmas tree was decorated with recycled mineral water bottles. This year, Siwa said they will be using decorations fashioned out of soda cans.

She said the Christmas tree decorating contest will be on Dec. 1 and the judging will be on the following day. The winners will be announced on Dec. 16 at the Paseo de Marianas.

Last year, 14 schools participated in the contest and the grand prize winner was Joshua Generation Academy which received a $5,000 prize.

“Like the past years, the decorations for the Christmas trees should all be made of recyclable materials because this event is all about promoting and spreading awareness about recycling,” Siwa said.

Materials that can be used for decoration includes empty water bottles, tin cans, Styrofoam, plastic cans, bags and others recyclable materials. For more information, drop by Kinpachi Restaurant across from the Fiesta Resort & Spa in Garapan or call Siwa at 234-6900.
