Letter to the Editor: Government shutdown

Governor Fitial said that on Sept. 15, 2010 government work-hours must be cut by 16 hours in order to come up with a balanced budget for fiscal year 2011 which started on Oct. 1, 2010, I suggest that our government provide affected employees with farmlands and boats for fishing so that they will not go hungry.

One more thing: all government rental offices must shut down, too, in order to save money. We have plenty of abandoned buildings like the Garapan housing area adjacent to Garapan Elementary School. The buildings there are the proper location where some of the offices can be relocated. Put them together in one area. We will save gas and money.

In the past, we lost many opportunities to make money, for example, the island of Pagan and its pozollan. And how many people could have gone to work there? And the land near the hospital. An investor could have built a mega-shopping mall there. What about the Chinese investor who offered several millions of dollars to the CNMI government so that all the offices of our government could be in one place in exchange for a parcel of land like that of the state Capitol  in Honolulu?

Juan Dela Cruz said do not count the eggs unless they’ve hatched already. Lawmakers, wake up before it is too late.
