The Marianas Visitors Authority (MVA) and major sponsor Marianas Coffee Co. have extended the annual event to help elevate the trail run to an international level.
“The Marianas Coffee Trail Run is geared at attracting international runners, and we want to respond to feedback that a standard 30K run would be even more attractive,” said MVA Community Projects Manager Martin Duenas.
“But one thing that won’t change is the unbeatable views along the new course.”
Marianas Variety was told in an email interview that the run will feature 30K and 10K trail runs on challenging terrain offering scenic views of the tropical island.
Beginning along the shore at American Memorial Park, the race heads to the highest point of the island on Mt. Tapochau before returning to the park. The course takes runners through wild coffee plantations planted in the Japanese-colonial era, as well as the young coffee groves of Marianas Coffee Co.
The October schedule is intended to draw more visitors to the island during a relatively low-travel period.
Registration is due by Oct. 1, 2010, and the entrance fee is set at $30.00 per head. Should there be any late registrations it will still be accepted on that day however, the entrance fee will be raised to $40.00 on that day.
All participants will receive a finisher’s t-shirt, certificate of participation, and free entry to the awards banquet. The banquet will be held at Micro Beach at 11:30 a.m. on race day.
Awards, including Marianas Coffee giveaways, will be given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in the male and female divisions.
Medals will also be given to winners of the age divisions. The age divisions are: 18 yrs. and under, 19-29 years, 30-39 years, 40-49 years, and 50 years and up.
Walkers for the 10K are also welcomed. The event is also sponsored by KFC Triathlon Japan, and TEAM PDI.
