Fund Administrator Richard Villagomez in an interview yesterday said he received Speaker Froilan C. Tenorio’s letter asking him whether the commission’s officials and employees are eligible for retirement benefits.
Villagomez said to give the speaker the most accurate answer, he needs to review the history of Tinian’s gambling regulatory body.
He said as far as he knows, it has been 20 years now since the creation of the Tinian commission, and a number of its officials and personnel have already retired and are receiving retirement benefits.
Villagomez said they are now reviewing the Tinian gaming commission’s “history” with the Retirement Fund.
Villagomez said this is going to take a while.
Tenorio, Covenant-Saipan, does not believe that the Tinian gaming commission as well as the island’s municipal government are part of the CNMI retirement program. He is also seeking an opinion from the Office of the Public Auditor regarding this issue.
