Estolas, Muleta lead Mobil above Chow Queen

The once-undefeated Chow Queens lost in their tightly fought game by 97-94, but will still have a chance to redeem themselves in the UFO’s next series of quarter final games.

Jun Estolas and Pando Muleta were the key forces in Mobil’s victory, as the duo rammed their way through the Chow Queens’ defense. Mobil’s Junar Guiab easily slipped through Bart Demapan and Jun Pantaleon, making several steals and landing two three-pointers in the first quarter.

While the Chow Queens left their opponents behind in the first half, the night’s outcome wasn’t decided until the last minutes of the game. Accumulating nine points in the fourth quarter, Muleta thrilled the crowd with two consecutive field goals behind the three-point line. Estolas and Gil Gapor dashed for the basket with reverse lay ups, passing the Chow Queens in the scores.

With 30 seconds left on the clock, Bon Tamayo blasted a three-pointer that put the Chow Queens two points behind the Mobils.

Gil Gapor finally secured the Mobils’ victory with two free throw attempts. Behind by three points, the Mobils had no time to turn the game around. While the Chow Queens’ bench was loaded for the night, the Mobils focused on their shorter number of players for a steady offense.

Unfortunately, the UFO basketball league only completed one of their scheduled games last Thursday. Prior to the highly anticipated clash between Chow Queen and Mobil, the MAFEA – Ebisuyas and Cabalen – Wings Travels were cut off in the third quarter by rain.

Weather conditions also interrupted the UFO’s first game last Saturday, between the MDX – PTC Monsters and Visminda Kids Coves. The league’s committee decided that the Monsters and Kids Coves will finish their game tomorrow, followed by another continuation between the Wings Travels and Ebisuyas. The open division’s MAFEA – Ali’i Konflikts and Cavites will play next in the third game.
