Arriving from Pau Pau Beach, Hell of the Marianas veteran Jazy Garcia was the very first participant to cross the finish line at one hour, one minute, and 25 seconds. Following him in the road bike category was Lewie Tenorio, who placed second at 1:02:26.78. Butch Sublemente ranked third place as he completed the course in 1:02:26.90.
Trailing Ferrer in the mountain bike category by fractions of a second was Ireneo Isip, who the finished the race in 1:02:44.81. Nap Dizon came three seconds later, winning third place.
A total of 80 participants joined in the race, with the majority of registrants signing up for the mountain bike category. Some came to prepare for the upcoming Hell of the Marianas, while some raced just for fun.
“It was a hard race because it was all flat. You have to be consistent from start to finish,” said Ferrer.
Garcia, who claimed to have not raced for quite some time, was also satisfied and happy with the results. Aside from taking part in the race, Garcia stated that he was also on island to start planning for the Jazy Cup – Saipan event.
While several participants arrived on their own, others came in groups as they crossed the finish line. This is currently the third successful Bike for Life event hosted by PIC, with this year’s proceeds going to PIC’s fight against cancer.
