Toribiong and Paramount Chief Reklai hail ROC-Taiwan

In his special remarks during the 99th national day celebration of ROC on Friday, Toribiong expressed his warm gratitude and appreciation to Taiwan.

“Palauan people are most grateful for the friendship we established over the years. Since we established our diplomatic relation and friendship, Palau has greatly benefitted from your generosity and support.” President said.

Toribiong cited the newly opened bridge in Ngaremlengui State crossing over the Ngermeskang River.

“The bridge is one of the many. Without your generosity and friendship, Palau would not be where is today.” Toribong added.

Palau and Taiwan started its diplomatic ties on Dec. 1999.

Paramout chief Reklai for his part also said that it was Dec. 29, 1999 at the same place in Palasia Hotel, when the Republic of Palau and People’s Republic of China signed a document and established diplomatic relationship.

Reklai reminisced that Palau was only five year old then of its government and Taiwan served as its brother in providing support throughout the years.

During the 99th national day of ROC, Reklai said “this celebration is not only the ROC’s birthday but also a celebration for our 11th year of relationship.”

Reklai mentioned some of the infrastructure projects of Taiwan to Palau particularly the access road in Babeldaob States which gave a big help for the people in those States to transport their products to Koror. He also cited the improvements of fishing, aquaculture, agriculture, healthcare, and education system in Palau through the support of Taiwan.

Apart from these, Toribiong and Reklai also hailed Taiwan for its participation in Global Climate Change Organization and support in International Civil Aviation Organization which ensures the safety of the travelers flying to Taiwan and other countries.
