Parishioners joined the traditional procession around the village and listened to the homily of retired Bishop Tomas Camacho.
One of the active members of the parish council, Stan Benavente, described the celebration as very successful.
The big turnout only shows that their church is growing, he said.
The celebration was very significant for Fr. Charlie Borja, the parish priest.
During Mass, his composition “We Are Your Children” was first sang in public.
The song was interpreted by “Light and Salt,” one of the choirs of St. Jude Parish. The keyboard player, Rodinah Saudia F. Ramos, a graphic artist of the Marianas Variety, composed the song’s melody.
Arceli Zamora, Light and Salt head servant, said the tune is now their group’s theme song. Its lyrics were written by Borja on Aug. 9 after the choir met and discussed composing a song.
The song is about the “proclamation of salvation,” she said.
The traditional songs offered by the Chamorro choir of the parish also send a strong message, Zamora said.
“Listening to the songs, we feel the spirit of the island.”
Benavente thanked the consistent efforts of Rita Villagomez Barbo, for coordinating the fiesta events.
He said Barbo always makes sure that the programs are attractive and successful.
The fiesta was also made possible by the support of the parishioners and community members, he added.
“Even in our economic situation people continue to support the event — some businessmen made donations and elected officials provided tables and tent,” he said.
After the procession, parishioners went back to the church to enjoy the food and drinks prepared for the occasion.
