Pohnpei band commemorates fallen US journalist

The World Music Days “Harmony for Humanity” is inspired by the life and work of Wall Street Journal reporter and musician Daniel Pearl, who, in 2002, was murdered by terrorists while investigating a story in Pakistan.

U.S. Embassy Chargé d’ Affaires Lori Dando thanked those present at the event, calling the global initiative a “tribute to all the visionary men and women who use the power of music to lift peoples of different backgrounds and beliefs above the differences that set us apart.”

The Daniel Pearl Foundation was established as a global concert network affirming the ideals of tolerance, friendship and shared humanity.

The inauguration of Daniel Pearl Music Days in October 2002 was launched with a huge impact, incorporating over 100 concerts in 18 countries.

Musicians ranging from small amateur bands to the symphony orchestras of Atlanta, Boston and Chicago dedicated performances to the ideals for which Pearl stood: friendship, tolerance and a love of humanity.

For 2010 there are currently over 1,500 events registered in 71 countries.
