Senate probe demands a full explanation from Toribiong of involvement with UKIHL

Sen. Raynold Oilouch has submitted his report to the Senate after he raised the issue in one of the session.

The senator in his report also recommended that Toribiong provide the Olbiil Era Kelulau copies of diplomatic note or any official communication from the Malaysian government that Davidson indeed resigned as Palau’s honorary consul to Malaysia.

The report also demanded from the president, Davidson’s removal from the post if that move has not been made.

Oilouch also demanded the president to immediately appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate the wrongdoings of Davidson.

“It is my utmost belief that the longer Davidson’s issue remains unresolved, the more suspicious the public becomes with President Toribiong’s association and or involvement with Davidson,” he stated.

President Toribiong earlier denied reports he received a $200,000 foreign contribution for his presidential election campaign from Davidson.

The report said a “smart politician will of course deny the allegation.”

“It is not the intention of this report to show or to prove that the nation’s president, in fact received money from Davidson or anybody else,” the report stated.

It said that it is the job of other agencies such as the SP office or even the Senate.

The report said, the president’s continued support of the UKIHL despite oppositions from several sectors like the traditional chiefs will not put the issue to rest.

“The people of Palau will increasingly think that our president is compromising the interest of our country and the Palauan people for the sake of protecting and defending Mr. Davidson and his activities in Palau,” the report stated.

In earlier interviews Toribiong branded the purported letter of UKIHL owner Morris Davidson to Terry Griffiths, Chief Operating Officer of Pacific Investment Properties Limited, a UK-based company which UKIHL allegedly scammed of millions of money “as rubbish.”

He however would not order a probe on the matter saying the issue is between Davidson and Griffith.
