Senate Bill 8-155 stated that currently owners of motor vehicles are able to easily register their vehicles regardless of residency.
“Allowing a motorist to easily register their motor vehicle in any state has resulted in lack of transparency in our nation’s vehicle registration and open flouting of motor vehicle registration laws,” the measure stated.
The measure also made amendments to the measure that before the application for vehicle registration before use on public roads or highways, applicant have to provide proof of residency.
The bill also included a provision that state government shall not be assessed registration fee pursuant to the law or any other law or regulation requiring a motor vehicle registration fee provided the vehicle passes registration inspection and displays an official state government license plate .
When the measure is approved, there will be rules regarding the type of proof required to prove residency.
