Jong Woo Kim and Hatsuko Bearden led team SDA in the second set when they finished the Geckos at 25-20.
Bearden saved Mariol Lopez and Jirene Lacorte at several occasions, preventing the Geckos to score an extra point.
SDA’s Tyler Palacios gave the team a steady start with his overhand serves, which easily passed through Saipan International School’s players. Kim assisted Palacios and Bearden with sets and passes, while Lacorte provided support in the back row.
The Geckos didn’t do very well in the first set, where they lost to team SDA by 25-14. After bringing the game to a 13-13 deadlock, Bearden boosted her team to the lead. Lacorte sent the Geckos scrambling with her kills, earning an easy eight points for team SDA.
COPSSA’s junior varsity volleyball tournament will proceed in Oct. 18, while the varsity games will start in Oct. 25.
