CNMI Military and Veterans Affairs Executive Director Ruth Coleman yesterday said the VA clinic, located at the MH2 Building in Puerto Rico, has been serving the medical needs of veterans for the past months but it will officially open in November.
“We are celebrating Veteran’s Day on Nov. 11, and we have set the following day for the clinic’s opening,” Coleman said.
The establishment of a VA clinic here was first proposed in 2000.
Its opening will mean that veterans and servicemembers need not go off-island for their medical checkup and basic health care needs, Coleman said.
But she said Saipan is not the only place whose VA clinic opening has been delayed.
“The VA clinic opening on Guam has also been delayed for so long,” she added.
The CNMI is home to over a thousand veterans, about 900 of whom are living on Saipan while the rest reside on Tinian and Rota.
