Childcare providers, instructors finish Motheread workshop

Gwen Hinton, Motheread trainer,  literacy specialist Gwen Hinton and training coordinator Evelyn Machtinger, who arrived on island last week for the training, said the Motheread program in the CNMI is getting very good support.

“We encountered no major challenges while conducting our training for the instructors and childcare providers here,” Hinton told the Variety.

She said they conduct Motheread workshops all over the country to help instructors and trainers acquire new ways to teach literacy skills.

CNMI Motheread/Fatheread program assistant coordinator Bryan Manabat said this was the second time for the CNMI to host a Motheread workshop.

“In the past years, we usually send participants to other countries to attend similar workshops but this time, we are fortunate to have federal grants which enabled us to invite the trainers over,” Manabat said.

The grant makes a big difference because instead of just sending one or two participants, many were able to participate because the trainers were on island.

Participants from Tinian were Lorna Hofschneider and Celina Farell while the two new trainers from Rota were Joann San Nicolas and Barrie Toves. Participants from Saipan were Beth Demapan, Celina Foreman, Sudi Napalan, Debbie Canete, Amor Rabauliman, Larry Manacop, Melisa Mendez, Lilia King, Wilma Atalig, Lourdes Angel Cabrera, Elenita Arriola, Leila Staffler, Nolyn Villagomez and Ma. Corazon San Nicolas.
