NMC honor students salute advisor, graduates

In honor of his dedicated service to the organization, the honor students presented advisor Larry Lee with a plaque of appreciation “as a token of our appreciation for all your dedication, support, understanding, kindness and friendship as our Advisor.  Our moments together will always be cherished.”

Lee also received recognition from the Phi Theta Kappa National Headquarters Center for Excellence’s executive director Rod Risley: “We at Phi Theta Kappa’s Center for Excellence owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to our chapter advisors whose dedicated service is responsible for the success of our local chapters.  We are proud to honor Mr. Larry Lee for 5 years of service as advisor of the Beta Lambda Psi Chapter at Northern Marianas College.”

An international organization, Phi Theta Kappa has recognized academic excellence, leadership, and service in two-year colleges since 1918.  It is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 1.5 million members and 1,200 chapters located in the 50 United States, U.S. territories, Canada, and Germany.  Phi Theta Kappa’s mission is two-fold: (1) to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students; and (2) to provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.

ABE extended placement testing

(NMC) — Northern Marianas College’s Adult Basic Education Extended Placement Testing for General Educational Development, Adult School, and English as a Second Language is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 20-21. Extended Registration is scheduled for Sept. 22  to 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition, to increase NMC’s efforts in recruiting instructors, all interested individual are encouraged to submit their application at NMC Human Resource Office located in building P.

All applications will then be forward to the ABE State Office for review and then routed to respective content area departments for certification.

The Adult Basic Education Program receives the bulk of their funding from the U.S. Department of Education/ Office of Vocational and Adult Education.

Military to conduct training on FDM, south of Guam

(EMO) — The U.S. military will conduct training on Farallon De Mendenilla from Sept. 22 to Sept. 27, from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., and on Sept. 28 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and in the areas south of Guam on Sept. 22, from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Due to the danger imposed by these activities, Gov. Benigno R. Fitial is advising the general public, especially fishermen, commercial pilots and marine tour operators, to stay away from this area during the time and dates indicated.
