The clean up was conducted yesterday with Palau joining at least 100 countries.
Dive volunteers from all over Micronesia flew to Palau to spearhead the cleanup day to scour underwater sites for trash.
The clean up started yesterday in the morning at Ngemelis Island with about 60 participating from the PADI Diving Society Group, volunteers from the Navy Civic Action Team, and Sam’s Tours staff.
Flying to Palau for the event are not only the the PADI Diving Society members, PADI management but also the editorial staff of Scuba Diving and Sport Magazines which will bring positive exposure to Palau and to Koror State in support of continued sustainable tourism development, according to Dermot Keane, Sam’s Tour Manager.
The group was here from Sept. 17 and will be departing Palau today.
Palau has been participating for years in the event. In earlier cleanups, trash collected yielded at least 2,000 lbs.
