BPS maintains regular duty on holiday activities

“We will maintain normal duty hour but direct our efforts on holiday activities instead.” Yano said in an interview.

He said that to maximize police personnel and the regular duty, four recruits from Law Enforcement Academy will be utilized as volunteers.

Palau will celebrate 16th Independence Day, Olechotel Belau Fair, United Nation Day and World Food Day on Oct. 1 to 3.

The three day festival showcasing Palau’s unique culture through cultural performances, arts and crafts, traditional sports and savory local delicacies.

The BPS will deploy police officers in activity areas to secure peace and security.

Yano said that the police’s duty is 24 hours a day, seven days a week. He said that in order to maintain the 24 hour duty without paying overtime, each police officer has eight hour duty per shift, three shifts in 24 hours.

“Each police has only five days to work per week. If police works seven days a week, a 48 hour overtime is incurred.” Director said.

It can be recalled that during the Micronesian Games held last August, police had worked 108 hours without overtime pays.

According to BPS the government is cash-strapped it cannot afford to provide the police overtime pays.
