Jonas Barcinas, the school principal, said the new PTSA officers are committed to the school’s programs.
The PTSA meeting was held on Sept. 16 and parents expressed willingness “to make a difference and help in the school improvement process,” he said.
This year’s PTSA officers are Manzurul Alam, president; Agnes McPhetres, vice president; Rose Ada-Hocog, secretary; and Gennie Liwag, treasurer.
Barcinas said the PTSA officers and members are ready to support the school administration and its staff.
“They’ve already met and started planning how to assist HJHS in its quest to make the school campus very inviting and safe for all of its students,” he added.
During the meeting, he said parents offered ideas and suggestions for the betterment of the school.
According to Barcinas, students were also excited and expressed their own commitment, dedication, enthusiasm for a successful school year.
On Sept. 18, the school conducted a Parent Summit-Open House.
The event was very successful and there was a huge turnout of participants, Barcinas said.
The purpose of the summit was for the school administration to share important information regarding student achievement data.
During the summit, he said parents were given copies of the student-parent handbook, the outline of the Public School System’s Four Strategic Priorities Plus One as well as the school mission, vision and philosophy.
Barcinas said they also informed parents about the ongoing projects funded by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds.
“The teachers also had their opportunity to share a wealth of information with their respective cohort teams regarding classroom expectations, rules and policies, standards and benchmarks, and tips for parents on how they can better help their kids with their school work and many more,” he said.
