Konflikts sweep Apparels, 82-72

Outmatched by the Island Apparels in the second quarter, the Konflikts decided it was enough and took control of the court by the second half. The Konflikt’s lead was attributed to Melvin Capalad and Elmer Esdrelon, whose jump shots boosted the team beyond the Island Apparels. With a couple of free throws from both players, both Capalad and Esdrelon shot for a combined total of 18 points in the third quarter.

Aside from Manuel Matagolai, the Island Apparels staggered in the offense by late game. Rex Yabut and Jomar Tengco landed some lay ups, but the Konflikts retaliated with a couple three-pointers from Brandon Talania and George Barbo.

Konflikt’s Badong Camacho followed up with 10 points by the fourth quarter, giving his team plenty of time to make extra baskets.

The Island Apparels resorted to rushing passes across the court, which at some occasions were not very successful. The Konflikts took advantage of their turnovers and made a few more shots before the game ended. Manuel Matagolai earned the highest individual score in the match with 26 points.

Bayani Soul Jazz 94, SIP – Mobil 91

Prior to the Konflikts’ victory, the SIP – Mobils’ luck came short when they were defeated by the Bayani Soul Jazzes 94-91 during last Thursday’s first game.

Since being surpassed by the Bayanis in the first quarter, the Mobils slowly progressed through the game with the handy work of Jun Estolas.

Lerio Pagarao was no doubt the main driving force behind the Bayanis. He struck 15 points early in the game, nine of which came from three-pointers. Pagarao’s team mates continued their pace through the second quarter, adding a total of 19 points.

The Mobils were once again 11 points behind. After being fouled by Bayani defenders, the Mobils recovered some points through free throws.

Bayani’s Eugene Mangali picked up some speed in the final quarter and hammered an additional eight points for the team. Jun Tabora assisted Mangali with an open lay up and later scored three of his four free throw shots.

With time running out, the Mobils were incapable of exceeding the Bayanis or bringing the game to overtime.
