Federalization to affect manamko’ programs

This year, the Aging Office cancelled the visit to Guam by the senior citizens at the Manamko’ Center due to the death of its director, Howard Macaranas.

Flawau, who was elected on Sept. 30 as the head of the council, said he will pursue the other programs of his predecessor, like fundraising activities, physical fitness events and the ground golf ball tournament.

Regarding the travel to Guam, he said some of his members are nonresidents who don’t have  U.S. visa.

Rose Mondala, the acting director of the Aging Office, said the council has a “very energetic” team of officers.

She said this is the first time the council registered with the Department of Commerce as a non-profit organization.

The other officers are Teresita Sorroza, vice president; Christiana Michael, treasurer; Rosario Ibanez, Secretary; board members  Alejandra Blas, Maria Salinas, Francisco Reyes and Felisa Baza.

The  previous officers were Christiana Michael, Rita Flawau, Ana Nakatsukasa, Mila Garin, Siyau Muna and Maryalen Conrad.

Sorroza and Baza remained on the council. They previously held the positions of secretary and board member.

About 80 members participated in the council election last month, Aging Office program coordinator Walter Manglona said.

The previous and new officers of the council are now preparing the financial report and other documents as part of the transition period.
