Last Friday, the school concluded its Cultural Spirit Week with the presentation of native dishes from different cultures.
“We live in a diverse world but just keep in mind that we are all the same,” kindergarten teacher Rita Carreon said.
Part of the Cultural Day celebration was the cleanup campaign on campus involving government agencies.
Carreon said the Department of Land and Natural Resources, the Division of Park and Recreation, the Division of Agriculture, and the Department of Corrections cleaned the school area and trimmed protruding tree branches.
During the week-long celebration, the third grade class of Leora Ngirablosch learned why “Critical Thinkers and Problem Solvers, Responsible Citizens of a Global Society, Effective Communicators, Self-Directed Lifelong Learners and Technologically Literate” must also build peace while celebrating the community’s different cultures.
The third grade class of Hilda Rios learned about native dishes, cultural attires and symbols. They are hoping to see a singing/dancing contest next year.
The second grade class of Fatima Manaloto and the fifth grade class of Corin Renguul learned the importance of communication in bridging different cultures.
Rios, the co-chairwoman of the Halloween Bash Week, said all grade levels will participate in the door decoration contest. There is also a poetry writing contest for all grade levels.
The judging will be held on Wednesday and the winners will be announced on Friday.
Today is “Orange Day” and students will wear attires in orange.
Tomorrow, teachers from all levels will teach students about Halloween arts and crafts.
Other activities in the weeklong celebration include wearing masks and hats, reading Halloween stories, and wearing Halloween costumes.
Rios said the Student Council will host a “ haunted house” in the hallway and collect an entrance fee of $1 each person.
During the culmination of the Halloween Bash Week, students will have a costume parade and the “silliest,” “scariest” and “best homemade costumes” will win prizes.
Teacher Daisy V. Bier is the over-all chairwoman of the Halloween event.
