Joey Dela Cruz, one of the key organizers disclosed in an interview yesterday that Chamolinian Softball Association Inc., has recently been organized and is now preparing to bring together as much as 20 softball teams from different softball organizations in the islands.
The Budweiser Chamolinian Softbal League, Dela Cruz stressed is not only for Chamolinian sluggers but is also open to Palauan, Pohnpeian and other community softball groups.
The Budweiser Chamolinian league will open on Nov. 16, at the Capital Hill Softball Field at 6:30 p.m., marking the birth of the association itself.
Dela Cruz said there has not been a league this big that was launched to bring CNMI’s softball community together.
“This is a much anticipated softball league, a lot of people on the islands have already been asking around about this,” De la Cruz said.
“We are inviting everybody to join,” he added.
The league will have 15 teams for men and five teams for women. The selection will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. This number of teams, Dela Cruz said will assure that every team will be able to play once a week.
Games will be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the entrance fee is $400. First game starts at 6:30 p.m., and the second game at 7:30 p.m.
The regular season for men’s division will run on a round robin format and the playoffs will have teams on a double elimination round. The regular season for women’s division will run on a round robin and the playoffs will go on elimination round as well.
