Rota Blue Triathlon set for Nov. 14

With just 20 days left before the annual Olympic-distance event in the NMI, KFC Triathlon Club President Kiyokazu Onishi has announced some exciting updates for this year’s event.

Joining the event will be professional Japanese athletes Hidea Miyazuka, Taro Shirato, Masayuki Matsumaru and all the veterans of NMI athletic events including the annual XTERRA Saipan Championship and the prestigious Tagaman Triathlon.

Also, Triathlon Trip Magazine will send an editor and writer to cover the event for the Japan publication.

This year’s edition of the Blue will consist of two separate events, both including a unique swim, bike, and run course.   The Type A course requires participants to swim 1.5 kilometers, bike 40 kilometers, and run 10 kilometers to complete the course.   For those looking to get more of a workout, B course will offer a 2.0 kilometer swim, a 90-kilometer bike course, and a 21-kilometer run.  Both events will begin at 6:30 a.m.

“Our strong partnership with KFC Triathlon Club is setting the stage for another successful Rota Blue Triathlon in November,” MVA Managing Director Perry Tenorio said.

“While we finalize preparations to deliver a world-class triathlon event to our competitors, KFC is working hard to get the word out to the athletes.  We’re looking forward to a great event.”

The entry fees for the Type A Solo Triathlon is $80 (no completion time limit) and Type B Solo Triathlon is $100 (completion time limit is eight hours).  Entry fees for Type A Team Triathlon is $210 for a team of three or $140 for a team of two (no completion time limit).

Entry fee includes an event T-shirt, awards banquet entry, and a guaranteed great time.  Top prizes also await the top three finishers in the men’s and women’s categories.   The annual Rota Blue Triathlon is one of four major triathlon events held in the CNMI, along with the XTERRA Saipan Championship, Tagaman Triathlon and the Tinian Turquoise Blue events.

The Rota Blue Triathlon is also sponsored by the Rota Mayor’s Office, Rota Resort & Country Club, other government departments and agencies, and the people of Rota.
