Kimiuo congratulated and commended the candidates and their families, the leadership of the state, and most especially, the eligible voters and citizens for their understanding of the democratic principles and process as evidenced by their actions on Election Day, which was “very smooth and peaceful.”
At 9:45 a.m., Oct. 22, the Pohnpei/FSM National Election Commission transmitted the certification and the final unofficial results of the election to the national election director.
After reviewing the documents thoroughly, Kimiuo concurred with the commission’s findings and certified the declaration of election results for Pohnpei’s at large seat by declaring Peter M. Christian as the winning candidate.
The final tally: Christian, 5,888 votes (44 percent); Esmond Moses, 3,832 (28 percent); Mohner Esiel, 3,325 (25 percent); and Joseph Phillip, 453 (3 percent).
