To the Legislature:
Once again you have proven just how much out of touch you are with the people. You just passed a smoking ban on the island. Did you stop to think how it is going to affect small businesses? Most of them depend on tourists for their survival. Guess what, a large percent of the tourists smoke. If they cannot smoke in a business establishment they will not go there; and they will not come back to the island and they will tell their friends not to come here.
I know it is an election year and you think you have to do something to show the voters that you are working. Well, why don’t you spend your time addressing the real problems on the island, such as the economy, the corruption in the government? If you have to pass a law on smoking ban, pass one that makes sense. Allow the businesses to create a “smoking area” and a “no smoking area.” You do not have to step on the rights of the smokers to get what you seem to want.
I encourage all the voters to find out which lawmakers voted for this smoking ban. If they are up for re-election do not vote for them. We need to get some new blood in the Legislature. We need lawmakers that will work for the people not against them.
To the Governor:
Are you for real? You have taken one of Senator Ray Guerrero’s ideas and messed it all up. He wants to bring in quality medical specialists to man the hospital. You want to bring in a group of doctors from the Philippines. You need to make a call to the hospital on Guam. They tried this and when the doctors got to Guam many of them could not pass the U.S. certification test. Most of them are now working as nurses at the hospital.
Nice try Governor, but no cigar.
People, ask yourself who do you want to treat you; a certified doctor or someone who is working under a third party certification?
